The decision reflects usage patterns showing that the Alexa Smart Home Skill has not been widely adopted by HDA customers. Maintaining the system at API 3 would require ongoing development and support resources disproportionate to the number of users benefiting from it.
Instead, HDA is focusing efforts on integrations that deliver greater value to the majority of customers, including support for Apple Siri Shortcuts. This move aligns with HDA’s strategy to prioritise features and integrations that are actively used, practical, and deliver meaningful benefits to smart home owners.
HDA will continue to explore new ways to expand integration options for its customers in line with evolving market demand and usage trends.
Amazon will transition to API 3 on the 1st November 2025. All HDA Smart Home Skills running API 2 will cease working for all customers on this date.
